Anti Wrinkle Skin Care

The skin is the body's largest organ. While your skin visibly ages as you get older, it is possible to look younger and more radiant by combating wrinkles and fine lines. When it comes to anti wrinkle skin care, there are a number of options to prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Treatment options range from no or low cost, common sense methods to expensive cosmetic surgery. Whether you are at an age where wrinkles are just starting to become a concern or your wrinkles are well established, it is possible for your skin to look as youthful as you feel.

The primary cause of wrinkles is sun damage. There is no such thing as a healthy tan, as tanning is the skin's response to too much sunlight. Most wrinkles are the result of exposure to the sun over time. You can reduce wrinkles by staying out of the sun as much as practically possible. If you must spend time in the sun, be sure to wear sunscreen as it will not only prevent wrinkles but lessen the risk of skin cancer as well.

Tobacco smoke is another leading cause of wrinkles. Smoke from cigarettes and other tobacco products is damaging to the skin and makes you look older faster. You do not need to be told that quitting smoking is a good idea, but healthier skin is one of the many health benefits to be enjoyed from giving up smoking.

Over the course of a lifetime, the facial expressions you make consistently like frowning, smiling or squinting can lead to wrinkles. You've probably heard such wrinkles referred to as laugh lines or crow's feet. You can avoid squinting by wearing sunglasses when outdoors and wearing reading or prescription glasses if your eyesight is diminishing. While it isn't very practical or good for your social life to avoid smiling or making facial expressions, be aware that overworking your facial muscles can lead to wrinkles.

Another important aspect of anti wrinkle skin care is drinking plenty of water. Most dietitians and health experts recommend drinking between six and eight glasses of water daily. Getting enough water will keep your body and your skin adequately hydrated.

Virtually everyone knows how important it is to get a good night's sleep, but what you may not realize is that the position in which you sleep may contribute to wrinkles. Sleeping on your tummy with your face buried in your pillow can furrow your brow over time and cause sleep lines that will not subside once you're awake. People who sleep on their side may develop lasting wrinkles on their cheeks. Sleeping on your back is the best way to reduce wrinkles caused by many hours of sleeping in a particular position.

Anti Wrinkle Skin Care Products

In addition to refraining from certain behaviors that may result in wrinkles, there are also a number of anti wrinkle skin care products. Various creams and lotions topically applied, usually once in the morning and once before bed, are available at any drugstore, supermarket or cosmetics counter.

A good moisturizer is the cornerstone of a skin care regimen intended to prevent or reduce wrinkles. Your skin looks its best when it is moist, so routinely using moisturizing products will help to conceal and stop wrinkles from forming. I use Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream to keep the crow's feet that have begun forming at the corners of my eyes at bay.

Retinoids, which are a class of skin care products derived from vitamin A, have been shown to smooth fine lines and help reduce wrinkles. Retinol is found in many over-the-counter creams. Before you rush out and buy products containing Retinol, you should be aware that they may irritate your skin and take several weeks before results are visible. There are also stronger prescription retinoids available to rejuvenate your skin. Your doctor can determine which formulation and degree of strength is the best for you.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids work as exfoliants, reducing wrinkles and fine lines by removing the uppermost layer of dead skin cells. The side effects of Alpha Hydroxy Acids can be cause for concern. They include redness and irritation as well as increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoiding the sun as much as possible and taking care to apply moisturizer and sunscreen following the use of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid containing product are absolute musts.

Anti Wrinkle Skin Care Procedures

Medical procedures are another form of anti wrinkle skin care. Chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing are procedures that use different methods to remove the top layer of skin. These treatments can smooth skin, stimulate collagen production and result in younger looking skin. Botox injections are a common cosmetic procedure whereby unwanted wrinkles are removed by relaxing the muscles that are contracted and causing wrinkles. Wrinkle fillers are becoming more popular. Fillers work by injecting a substance into the skin to fill in facial wrinkles resulting in smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. Talk to your doctor when considering any sort of medical procedure to reduce wrinkles.

Anti Wrinkle Skin Care

Many people, men and women alike, go to great lengths to have unwanted wrinkles removed from their skin. Often, they wait until their wrinkles are abundantly apparent rather than taking steps to promote healthy skin at the first sight of wrinkles or before fine lines and wrinkles set in. Whether you're concerned about wrinkles, just starting to notice them forming or have finally decided to do something about the wrinkles you have been ignoring, there are anti wrinkle skin care options for you. It can be as simple as spending less time in the sun and adding a simple moisturizer to your skin care regimen or as involved as cosmetic surgery. Consult your doctor for treatment or product recommendations.
